About Us
Seymour Art Gallery, established 1985, is a non-profit public gallery in the heart of Deep Cove, North Vancouver and the only public gallery located in the District of North Vancouver.
We acknowledge, with respect, that the Seymour Art Gallery stands on the traditional, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
We welcome more than 26,000 visitors yearly to our gallery, Gallery Shop, and special events. Along with a busy exhibition schedule, we present performance events — including music, artist talks and demonstrations, interactive artmaking, and events for children. The gallery also plays an educational role, by organizing programs for schools and activities for the public in conjunction with our exhibitions.
Volunteering
We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in many roles, including but not limited to helping at events and receptions, fundraising committee work, and welcoming visitors as a gallery attendant.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Gallery monitor and shop sales
Responsibilities include greeting visitors, recording attendance, and making sales using a simple iPad-based point-of-sale. Training is provided. - Special Events
Duties may include greeting guests, checking people in, answering questions, and providing general support to help keep events like exhibition receptions running smoothly. - Serving alcohol at events
Requires ‘Serve it Right’ certification in order to serve alcohol. - Programs for younf people
Requires experience working with children and a criminal records check.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an interest in contemporary art, enjoy interacting with the public, be friendly and welcoming, comfortable working independently, and willing to learn. Must be comfortable using an iPad, handling cash, as well as credit card and debit machine transactions. Art education an asset.
Training is provided and a parking space is available during your shift. We are looking for enthusiastic people who are interested in the arts and in learning about our thriving local creative community!
We are open Wednesday – Sunday from 11 am – 5 pm. After an interview and training session, we offer flexible online volunteer shift sign-ups. We kindly request a minimum 3-month commitment.
