See the work of Jim Gladden, "Visual Pilgrimage", at the Quay Gallery from April 16th until May 3rd

Opening: 5 - 7 pm, April 19th

Jim Gladden was born in West Hollywood. California, in 1933 and studied at the Yale School of Fine Arts under the Bauhaus master Josef Albers. He also studied theology. His work reflects a spiritually-motivated lyricism, and Gladden has described his painting as “embodied payer,” conversations with God that turn accidents of manipulated paint into lyrical expressiveness. While wholly serious, it nevertheless delights in whimsy. “Whether I’m taking a walk in the woods or squishing paint on the surface of glass, I’m always observing and discovering ways of making new optical mixtures,” Gladden says. He paints in acrylics on glass or plastic and transfers the images to canvas, an innovative technique which he describes as “acrylic transfer.”

Jim Gladden’s paintings will be on show at the Seymour Art Gallery at Lonsdale Quay from April 16 to May 3. Opening reception is from 5 pm to 7 pm April 19.
