The Seymour Art Gallery proudly presents Trio Accord
On Tuesday November 8th at 8pm, the Seymour Art Gallery presents Trio Accord. This intimate concert is the final event of 2011 in the gallery's acclaimed Music Series. The Trio Accord is a Vancouver based string trio that is starting to build a reputation of being one of Canada's premier chamber ensembles. Not only does the trio perform the selected works, they are also prepared to elaborate and offer insights about the music they play. This creates an open dialogue between the performers and the audience which is an important tool to further education about chamber music in general. The trio includes violinist Mary Brown, Andrew Brown on viola and cellist Ariel Barnes. Mary Brown is currently in the First Violins of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra where she has been selected on multiple occasions to perform individual solos. She has also played with the Vetta Recital Series, Music in the Morning, the Turning Point Ensemble and many more. Andrew Brown is the Associate-Principal violist of the Vancouver Symphony orchestra and has played around the world including North America, Korea and Japan. He has experienced eighteen years with the CBC Radio Orchestra and has even played alongside Led Zeppelin in concert. Ariel Barnes has been playing cello since the age of five and has travelled across North America pursuing his musical education from a number of different coaches including members of the Guarneri, Julliard, Cleveland, Orford, and St. Lawrence String Quartets. All three artists come together to create what is said to be an "enchanting" and "exhilarating" performance that will leave you inspired.
The Seymour Art Gallery proudly presents Wendy Bird and her Band of Miscreants
On Tuesday March 29 at 8pm, the Seymour Art Gallery presents Wendy Bird and her Band of Miscreants. This intimate concert is the first event of 2011 in the gallery's acclaimed Music Series.
A North Vancouver native, Wendy Bird has been singing her entire life. Through high school and into her early twenties, Wendy sang with several local bands before pursuing a nonmusical career. Once Wendy was well established in the corporate world, she again fell in with her friends in the music crowd; this time singing with Jeff Hatcher's regrouping of The Blue Shadows called The Sugar Beats. She also sang backing vocals on recordings for many other bands including Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts and The Paperboys. She released her own record of Jeff Hatcher penned songs titled "Natural Wonder" in 2010.
Wendy regularly performs throughout Western Canada with The Grand Cariboo Opry and locally with The High Bar Gang. She was called to sing at the prestigious "Hardly Strictly Bluegrass" festivals 10th anniversary this past October and was immediately asked back to perform again next year.
Besides singing selections from her own album, Wendy along with her band The Miscreants (Drummer Geoff Hicks, Bassist Rob Becker, Guitarists Eric Reed and Colin Nairne and vocalist Angela Harris), will play songs written by some of her many musical friends.
